St. Andrew’s Parish, Heddon-on-the-Wall

Dear Friends,

‘The Bishop of Newcastle, together with The Lord Chancellor as Patron, is delighted to announce that the Rev'd Rachel Scheffer, Priest in Charge of Matfen and Stamfordham, is additionally to become the Priest in Charge of Heddon on the Wall; and Rev’d Tom Birch, Vicar of Ovingham and Wylam, is to additionally become Associate Priest of Heddon on the Wall.

Rachel and Tom will be licensed in due course over the summer months as conditions permit.

Rachel says: ‘Since moving into Corbridge Deanery as Priest in Charge of Stamfordham and Matfen it has been a delight to get to know many people, the area and all the parishes in the Deanery. It now feels exciting, hopeful and a blessing to become the Priest in Charge of Heddon on the Wall as well, and I am looking forward to worshipping and ministering with the people of Heddon and building greater relationships across the North East of Corbridge Deanery.

Tom says: ‘I am delighted to look forward to a new era of collaborative and supportive working between all people – lay and ordained – in these parishes’.

Please keep Rachel and Tom, their families and all the people of these parishes in your prayers as they prepare for this new ministry’.

We are sure you will agree that this is very good news for St. Andrew’s. It is in line with our Parish Profile and as anticipated by the PCC. We will be working very hard in the coming months to liaise with our fellow parishioners at Wylam, Ovingham, Stamfordham, and  Mafen with Ryal to share skills and expenses for the benefit of all parishes.

When a date is set for the Licensing of the Priests we shall let you know. Until then we shall continue with the existing pattern of worship. We aim to continue to hold a service at 10am every Sunday in St Andrew’s church.

We hope you will join with members of the PCC in welcoming new friends from our neighbouring parishes and we look forward to a very happy future together.

A Happy and Blessed Easter to you all.
